DEEP DIVE
Dimension X: Robots is a new type of mixed reality experience designed to explore how the Science Museum can engage audiences beyond its own buildings. Launched in the Metrocentre shopping centre in Gateshead, it is part of a collaboration project funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
The user experience:
Dimension X: Robots gave Intu Metrocentre’s visitors the chance to build custom robots that could save a futuristic city using Magic Leap headset technology. Using Magic Leap headset technology to superimpose computer-generated graphics onto a specially curated space, teams of players were called up to Dimension X, an otherwordly realm, where they used ghost tracking equipment to contain onsite paranormal activity.
Developed by a leading consortium of partners including the Science Museum Group, Sky, Magic Leap, and Intu Shopping Centre, the experience had just launched in the Metrocentre in Gateshead when the COVID-19 lockdown was announced.
